G-SHOCK to Serve as Official Timekeeper at the Annual Surf Competition

DOVER, NJ, July 25, 2017 – Casio G-SHOCK announces its official return to the 2017 VANS US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, C.A. on July 29 through August 6. For the eleventh consecutive year, G-SHOCK will serve as official timekeeper of the world-renowned surfing competition and will offer a variety of on-site activations showcasing the brand’s toughness and style. The event, which draws large crowds of action sports enthusiasts annually, is free-of-charge and open to the public.

As in previous years, a massive G-SHOCK watch will be displayed on the popular Huntington Beach Pier to provide competitors and judges the official time for the full, nine-day competition. This timepiece has become a staple of the competition and a symbol of absolute toughness.

G-SHOCK will also host a booth onsite, serving as a place for new product displays, games, and meet and greets with G-SHOCK athletes. Guests will be invited to take part in G-SHOCK’s popular “Tough Toss Game," where they’ll experience the unique shock and water-resistant toughness of G-SHOCK watches by attempting to throw them into containers of water for a chance to win prizes. G-SHOCK sponsored athletes, including surfers Yadin Nicol, Kanoa Igarashi, and skater Pedro Barros in addition to BABY-G athletes such as surfer Malia Manuel and skater Lizzie Armanto, will be competing in various events throughout the week, and select athletes will join fans for meet and greets at the booth.

The G-SHOCK booth will also serve as a way to display some of the brand’s latest models including an array of timepieces from G-SHOCK’s Master of G, G-STEEL, G-LIDE and GA700 Series, as well as the new HUF collaboration. There will also be G-SHOCK S Series as well as BABY-G models on site.

About G-SHOCK
CASIO’s shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch is synonymous with toughness, born from the developer Mr. Ibe’s dream of ‘creating a watch that never breaks’. Over 200 handmade samples were created and tested to destruction until finally in 1983 the first, now iconic G-SHOCK hit the streets of Japan and began to establish itself as ‘the toughest watch of all time’. Each watch encompasses the 7 elements; electric shock resistance, gravity resistance, low temperature resistance, vibration resistance, water resistance, shock resistance and toughness. The watch is packed with Casio innovations and technologies to prevent it from suffering direct shock; this includes internal components protected with urethane and suspended timekeeping modules inside the watch structure. Since its launch, G-SHOCK has continued to evolve, continuing to support on Mr. Ibe’s mantra “never, never give up." www.gshock.com.
